Ghetto Youths International laid the foundation in 1989, for what promises to be the most sensational and dynamic musical performances for the next millenium. In addition, the younger Marleys have identified the spiritual source of their music, the children of the ghetto, and now want to reach out and help that element through charitable programs.

As quoted from the Jamaica Daily Gleaner in December of 1995, Steven Marley, executive producer for Ghetto Youths, states, "We call it Ghetto Youths because the youth are the source of the music. I didn't grow up in the ghetto, but I am of the ghetto, and the music addresses the elements of the ghetto, like "sufferation," striving and the upliftment of poor people. So it is the voice of the ghetto speaking to an international audience."
