Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers are about to enter a new era in their already highly successful career. They're completely out of the shadows of their legendary father, Bob Marley, a fact no one can doubt. And for years, the group enjoyed a success under the able guidance of their mother Rita Marley.

Now, everyone in the group has long since grown up and are managing the affairs of the group on their own - under the leadership of big sister Sharon Marley-Prendergast.

Sharon exudes a level of maturity and business acumen, which belie her years. Working in consultatuon with Ziggy, Cedella and Steven, her mother Rita and Manager Addis Gessesse, Sharon is the one with whom the "buck stops". Her typical day begins with meetings with Ziggy, with whom she works closest. Then whatever decisions are reached, the rest of the members must give their input before any implementation takes place. If any member is unavailable, then proper documentation is done and the necessary information circulated to the rest of the Melody Makers.

Though she tries to shy away form the publicity, Sharon ends up being the off the air spokesperson for the Melody Makers. Like Cedella, she also choreographs for the group and is also directly responsible for tour co-ordination and, along with the other members of the group, she launched the Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers Fan Club. Sharon notes, "Most Jamaican entertainers are not aware of the tremendous demand for mechandising overseas. Everywhere we go, our fans are practically begging for us to leave some token with them to remind them of our performances".

The club started off targeting teenagers and young reggae music lovers, but as the Melody Makers have grown older, the age range of their fans has greatly broadened.
