Whenever he's written about, Steven Marley is usually referred to as the 'rougher' Marley. He's ragga to the crew and like Ziggy, he's not much into talking. Usually he's heard singing his way through the corridors of the Tuff Gong Recording Studios.

Music is definitely Steven's thing. He's the one who's bringing the electrifying sounds of the dance hall to the music of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, of which he's an integral part.

On the recent release, "Joy and Blues", Stephen's lyrics stand out in the track "Mama". Though it may not be overt, one gets the feeling that the song is an expression of solidarity with their mother - particularly so because of the tribulations she went through regarding their father's estate while the song was being written.

On the track "Headtop", Steve's rap-style lyrics showcase his particular talents in that vein and add another song to his list of other dance-inspiring songs like "Look Who's Dancing" and "One Bright Day".

Whether it is as instrumentalist, producer, songwriter or vocalist, Steven lets his music do the talking for him.
